Environment-related substances and definition of their control rank

(1) Definition of environment-related substances

Environment-related substances = (a) — (b)

  1. Criteria of the matrix: The following substances that are regulated by laws and ordinances, or listed in accordance with the evaluation of harmfulness
Environment basic law, environmental standard
(Abb. Ozone Layer Protection Law)
(Abb. Global Warming Countermeasure Law)
Air Pollution Control Law
Water Pollution Control Law
Odor Prevention Law
(Abb. Waste Disposal Law)
(Abb. PRTR Law)
The Law concerning the Examination and Regulation of Manufacture etc. of Chemical Substances
Industrial Safety and Health Law (Abb. Chemical Examination Law)
European RoHS Directives
The substances listed up as the objectives of
Regulatory substances by KITASHIBA
The substances disclosed as

  1. Excluded substances: The substances are excluded from above (a) that are used in production process but supposed not to be included in KITASHIBA’s products (e.g. solvent, detergent, organic compound material), or their use is limited to agricultural chemicals and medical drugs.
    However, prohibited materials are not excluded from above (a).

(2) Definition of control rank

  Substances whose use or manufacturing is prohibited by laws and regulations and substances whose use is prohibited by KITASHIBA
A’: [Substituted substance]
  Substance whose use shall be substituted from April, 2004 in principle.
However, the contents of substitution concerning export to Europe are in accordance with the European Directives
B: [Substances whose use is to be reduced or to be substituted by alternative substances in order to reduce environmental impacts, or substances for which a closed system is to be adopted for recovery and detoxification in order to minimize environmental impacts]
 

Substances corresponding to any of the following

  • Paragraph 6 of the Appendix of the Ozone Layer Protection Law
  • Gases to cause “Greenhouse effect” specified in the Global Warming Countermeasure Promotion Law
  • Substances that may generate dioxins when incinerated
  • Substances that come under one of the following (substances for which emission standards are established and substances to which priority is to be accorded in accordance with the Air Pollution Control Law; substances to which emission standards are established and substances to be monitored in accordance with the Water Pollution Control Law; substances regarding which industrial waste management standards are established in accordance with the Waste Management Law; or Type 2 specified chemical substances in accordance with the Chemical Substance Examination Law) and whose carcinogenicity according to the “data on toxicity of PRTR-specified chemical substances” issued by the Ministry of the Environment is Class 2 or higher and whose other toxicity is Class 1
