II. Concept of Green Procurement of KITASHIBA
1. Purpose
KITASHIBA will promote the procurement of assemblies,
components and materials that impose fewer burdens on the environment
(hereinafter referred to as Green Procurement) based on the concept to
hand over this “Irreplaceable Global Environment” to the
next generation in a sound status and for the creation of environmentally
harmonized articles.
Following are our purposes to promote Green Procurement:
- Procurement from the supplier that is promoting
environmental preservation activities,
- Procurement of assemblies, components and materials
that impose fewer burdens on environment through the whole period of
their life cycle (each stage of procurement, manufacture, distribution,
consumption and disposal).
2. Activity of KITASHIBA
- Procurement from the supplier that is promoting
environmental preservation activities
Basically the activities on environmental preservation is a voluntary
activities by the supplier, however, KITASHIBA supports the supplier
for the improvement if necessary.
KITASHIBA proceeds with Green Procurement by procuring parts and materials
from the supplier that is struggling with the activities considering
environmental preservation such as obtaining the certification of ISO
14001.
Specifically suppliers are evaluated on their activities such as acquisition
of ISO 14001 certification, their green procurement and their environmental
preservation activities.
- Procurement of assemblies, components and materials
that impose less burden on environment
KITASHIBA classifies the procurement goods into three categories according
to the characteristics of the item (procurement goods related to products
such as materials, procurement goods related to manufacturing activities,
and office supplies such as stationery) and tries to select procurement
of goods that impose fewer burdens on the environment.

- Activities on procurement goods related to products
“Procurement goods related to products” is a generic name of “all
goods to be procured (such as assemblies, system components, units, components,
materials, etc.) that compose the article that KITASHIBA sells”.
KITASHIBA defines the items specifically that relate to the reduction
of environmental burden of the procurement goods, surveys these items
and tries to select the procurement goods to impose fewer burdens on
the environment.
- Activities on procurement goods related to manufacture
Procurement goods related to manufacture is a generic name of indirect
materials such as facilities, jigs and tools, plating liquid, detergents
and etc. to produce the articles. KITASHIBA tries to select the procurement
goods to impose fewer burdens on the environment in accordance with “prior
environmental assessment on water quality, air, noise, vibration, etc.” and “prior
assessment of chemical substances of new materials”.
- Activities on office supplies such as stationery
KITASHIBA recognizes that adoption of writing goods, stationery, filing
goods, notes, etc those pay attention to the environment for the use
in the office is one of important activities because it cultivates
employee’s consciousness of environment.
For this viewpoint, KITASHIBA registers those goods as recommended
environmental goods such as eco mark certified goods, goods made of
recycled materials, recycling goods, goods capable of discriminated
recycling, goods using non polyvinyl chloride, and enhances the procurement
of these things.
3. Scope of the Guidelines
